La Spaziale S50

ITC (Independent Temperature Control) by La Spaziale

We are sure we can all agree; consistency is everything in espresso coffee.

Espresso is particularly sensitive to variations in temperature. Each element of the brewing process, from extraction time to pressure, interacts with the temperature of the water to extract the desired flavours from the coffee grounds. Inconsistent temperatures can lead to under-extraction or over-extraction, resulting in a flat tasting or bitter brew that fails to showcase the coffee's true character.

The brewing temperature affects not only flavour, but also the mouth-feel and the quality of the crema. Consistency is key and therefore a machine that provides the ability to control and then repeat the same brewing temperature is paramount. We as baristas rely on precise parameters to replicate the same tasting coffee.

Achieving temperature stability in espresso machines requires sophisticated engineering and precise control mechanisms. Many high-quality machines utilise advanced heating elements, such as thermoblocks or thermocoils, paired with accurate temperature sensors and PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controllers. These components work together to monitor and adjust the water temperature with remarkable precision, ensuring minimal deviations from the desired setpoint. La Spaziale machines (aside from the S50) work a little differently in that they have a patented system that provides excellent temperature stability at a more cost-effective price point. Bottomless espresso

La Spaziale machines have the option of Independent Temperature Control (ITC). This clever system allows for the mixing of cold water into the brewing water in a set measure. This gives a consistent way of controlling the temperature of your brewing water inline with your recipe to ensure you are extracting the best flavours from your coffee. Without ITC, La Spaziale machines by design, tend to run a little hotter than we like in the UK market. Too hot a temperature can lead to over-extraction and a more bitter tasting espresso. Having the option of ITC allows for the control of this temperature. The advantage of this design is that the price of La Spaziale machines can be more cost effective than a true multi-boiler as the technology to do this is less expensive than separate heating elements. This means we can offer a well-priced machine with the ability to control temperature.

On several of the La Spaziale models this is an optional extra on the machine. We would always recommend the ITC option on your La Spaziale to give you the ultimate control and consistency from your machine.
